Muse Scene Lab
Data Visualization // Student portal
The project
Muse Scene Lab is a start-up based in Madrid that is developing the first VR immersive music education platform to help students to rehearse and improve their music skills, offering a virtual orchestra.
Working with Muse Scene Lab for two weeks, me and my two colleagues, Paulina Labastidas and Carolina Burandt, we were able to provide a student portal with all the requirements and metrics a conductor student need.
The Problem
Students need a way to visualise rehearsing metrics such as time, progress, technical metrics, and be able to see theirselves recorded to find mistakes for them to be improved afterwards.
To solve this problem we provided a student portal including all the features we researched students might need.
Role and Timing
UX / UI Designer
Tools used: Figma
Time: two weeks
Awarded project to present on the Hackshow, March 2023
Challenge
Research and investigate the needs of music students, including the specific metrics of importance for conductors, in order to create a student portal in which they can easily track their progress and improvement of their skills.

Market Analysis and Secondary Research
Conducted a deep Market analysis and Secondary research to know more about music conductor students and their needs.
Also, and keeping in mind we had to build a student portal, we researched various, analysing how the competitors show all the information on them. Some of these competitors are Berklee Boston Conservatory, SAE Amsterdam or Berlin Music College.
User Target // User Interviews
Research goals: what is important for musicians/students when learning a new musical craft so we can understand what metrics are important for them to be shown in the student portal.
User Target and characteristics: students becoming conductors who are gonna become conductors currently enrolled in a musical school (the application works as a kind of extension of their classes).
What do we need to know from them?: we had to know about their learning process, what are their priorities, what is important when studying music and how do they measure rehearsals and improvement.
Building an Affinity Diagrams based on the insights found after the user interviews, made us figure out what is important for the user and what we needed to focus on after.
User Persona
Muse Scene Lab users need to find a way to track their progress because it helps them to get a better understanding of their performance and improve their skills in conducting.
Jobs to be done // Concept
Branding
Having a closer look to Muse Scene Lab we can define the brand attributes as Innovative, Creative, Engaging, Professional and Inspiring.
Desirability Test
Conducted a desirability test with potential users to see if our brand attributes match the interface we were designing.
Next steps
Network-social portal.
Social hangout space. Users can chat to connect with each other.
Possibility to add them in a friend’s list.
Classroom: overview of all students in one class with short summary of achievements.
Possibility of linking the student portal with apps most used by students.
